The KANE455 is a new generation gas analyser that incorporates direct measurement of CO2 using non-dispersive infra red (NDIR) technology and a long life CO sensor. Both sensors have an expected life of over five years.
This approach, and particularly the elimination of lead based electrochemical sensors, (probably the least reliable of all the components in traditional FGAs) will help to ensure that unplanned downtime is minimised and that overall service costs are reduced because there should be no need to replace sensors for 5 years.
The KANE455 has been independently tested and approved to BS EN50379 and so far as Kane are aware, it is the only analyser in the world using NDIR technology to have received such approval.
The features and functionality of the KANE455 are almost identical to the popular KANE425. The KANE455 is supplied with NiMh rechargeable batteries and a charger as standard. It is fully compatible with the KMIRP optional printer and can be upgraded with an optional Bluetooth module for wireless communication to a computer or compatible PDA such as the Cognito Mobile Workforce Management solution.

The KANE-ALERT-CO2 provides a low cost method of assessing carbon dioxide (CO2) levels and ventilation rates in offices, public buildings, commercial kitchens and many other locations where indoor air quality is important. High levels of CO2 can cause drowsiness, headaches or even long term damage. Examples of recommended CO2 limits include:
- Building Bulletin 101 states that the average CO2 concentration in classrooms during teaching should not exceed 1,500ppm
- British Standards BS6896, BS6230 and BS5990 which cover various gas fired heaters state that CO2 concentrations should not exceed 2,800ppm where people are working.
Other applications for the instrument include monitoring growing conditions in glasshouses and to warn of leaks when CO2 is stored in pressurised containers in an enclosed area.
