Install or service condensing gas boilers? CORGI "strongly recommends" you have relevant testing equipment and are competent in its use
Condensing boilers use air/gas valves and fans to reduce excess air in the boiler, lowering flue heat losses and raising boiler efficiency. If set incorrectly, the valve can supply fuel rich mixtures causing high Carbon Monoxide (CO) levels with potentially lethal consequences. CORGI Technical Bulletin 189 explains how air/gas valves work, how you must follow manufacturers' instructions and use a calibrated analyser.

If you install or maintain condensing gas boilers, CORGI strongly recommends your business has access to relevant testing equipment and is competent in its use
The KANE455 is a new generation gas analyser that incorporates direct measurement of CO2 using non-dispersive infra red (NDIR) technology and a long life CO sensor. Both sensors have an expected life of over five years.

The KANE-ALERT-CO2 provides a low cost method of assessing carbon dioxide (CO2) levels and ventilation rates in offices, public buildings, commercial kitchens and many other locations where indoor air quality is important. High levels of CO2 can cause drowsiness, headaches or even long term damage. Examples of recommended CO2 limits include:
- Building Bulletin 101 states that the average CO2 concentration in classrooms during teaching should not exceed 1,500ppm
- British Standards BS6896, BS6230 and BS5990 which cover various gas fired heaters state that CO2 concentrations should not exceed 2,800ppm where people are working.
