In this blog, we are delighted to be talking to Ben Hollis of Hollis Plumbing & Heating, Sittingbourne, Kent. They are a family run business, consisting of father-and-son Ben & David and their two employees Charlie & Haiden.
They specialise in boiler installs but also cover all aspects of plumbing and heating; from a dripping tap to kitchen and Bathroom installs.
How long have you been in the industry?
We have been established for over 50 years, thanks to my dad David’s hard work and commitment.
We pride ourselves on or reputation, which we like to think goes before us. We very rarely have to leave our own town, as we are more than busy.
With young staff and new family members we like to think we’ll be around for at least another 50!
Why did you become a plumber/engineer?
I personally became a Plumbing & Heating Engineer because of my dad. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time and I’ve never looked back. I first worked as a dental technician then scaffolder.
What do you love about your job?
I love the variety of the work and moving from one job to another, talking with our customers and having to get over problems, there’s always problems… but we solve them!
What annoys you about the industry?
There’s not much that annoys me about our industry, it’s hard work but satisfying, if I had to pick one thing i suppose it would be a leak, that’s annoying… not that I get any of course!
Why do you use KANE?
I love Kane equipment; it’s robust, looks good and is simple to use, which is a massive bonus!
We have 2 analysers and 2 printers, we will be adding a thermal camera as we do ALOT of power flushing, we can use this to show customers before and after images of the results we get, this is just one aspect in how we can use the thermal camera as it has many other uses.
We would also like to add one or two pressure meters/U gauges for now!
