This month’s KANE customer highlight is Specialist Gas Assessment Centre. SGAS is a purpose built, state-of-the-art training centre based in Blackpool, Lancashire.
The centre has been operating since 1996 and houses a Specialist Combustion Engineering Section, a Green Energy Skills Training Academy, an electrical Training Services Division and an ever-expanding portfolio of courses in Building Services Engineering Training.
Today SGAS can boast a ‘one stop shop’ for all ACS Gas Safe Register Training & Assessment, OFTEC Oil Training & Assessment, NVQ Gas, City & Guilds Electrical Training Courses, QCF Renewable Technology Courses, F-gas Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Courses and Building Regulations training and assessment courses.
We caught up with Steve Johnson, Director of SGAS.
What is your role in the company?
“General management of the company, new business development, consultancy and liaison with clients and suppliers, plus I am still involved in direct contact with delegates as I carry out training and assessment when operation needs dictate.”
What type of engineer comes to SGAS?
“SGAS attracts a diverse and wide range of delegates form sole traders to large international corporations. This is due to the diversity of the courses that we offer and experience in that delivery.”
What courses are popular at the moment?
“We have seen an upturn in courses for industrial gas process engineers, biogas sites and CHP/power generation.”
What courses are set to be popular in the future?
“Industrial and commercial gas and new entrant gas courses.”
Why do you use KANE?
“We have a fantastic working relationship with Kane and find that most engineers prefer Kane’s equipment and value the aftersales service.
“Kane have supported SGAS over the past 20 years and supplied many of our analysers, pressure gauges and annual recalibrations. Tom McCue and Lucy Wang recently were invited as guest speakers to a training course that SGAS delivered in Hong Kong to the EMSD Gas Authority.
“In turn SGAS have publicised Kane products at the centre, introduced new clients to Kane, carried out CPD training events for Kane staff and hosted meetings etc.”
